Hiya! My name is Alexandra Walker-Jones.
You know, people aren’t half kidding when they say it’s ridiculously difficult to write about oneself! Where to begin? What to include? How to be first and foremost authentic when my job is usually to be creative?
“I am irritated by my own writing. I am like a violinist whose ear is true, but whose fingers refuse to reproduce precisely the sound he hears within.” — Gustave Flaubert
And then comes the deeper stuff, like who I am? What do I value most in life? How did I get here? And what even is…

Different cultures and countries around the globe have harnessed the nutritional power of herbs in the treatment, suppression, and prevention of various ailments and diseases for centuries, with science only just beginning to explore the potential benefits they can provide.
While most individuals might picture a bay leaf or a sprig of rosemary when it comes to thinking about their favorite herbs, some of the most effective and health-promoting plants are ones you might never have even heard about.
When it comes specifically to supporting the functioning of the human brain, as…
I’m going to go ahead and say it: I don’t believe happiness is elusive. Moreover, I don’t believe that believing the idea that ‘happiness is elusive’ can ever truly be conducive to locating it.
That’s a bit of a wordy way to say it, but my point is: happiness is not something a small handful of lucky individuals just happen to stumble their way into one day —rather, it’s the cumulative sum of one’s thoughts, beliefs, habits, and behaviours. It’s what you direct your attention towards, where you exert your energy, and which actions you choose to engage in routinely.

I don’t know about where you are, but where I’m based, across the pond in London, we were lucky enough to get a few gorgeous days of warmer weather — only to be plunged back into the low 40’s without warning for the next couple of weeks.
Thankfully, there is hope! Summer is indeed just around the corner, and along with the increasing balmy appearance of the sun comes a range of helpful benefits for the healthy functioning of the human body.
Vitamin D deficiency is well-documented within scientific studies for its positive impact on diseases…
We often hear about the different types of attachment at they relate to romantic and inter-personal relationships, with little mention of how exactly these individual forms of attachment came to be.
Contrary to what some people might believe, we are not necessarily locked in to a particular attachment style based solely on our personalities. In fact, research suggests it has a lot more to do with the style in which we were parented, and the style of attachment exhibited by those who were doing our parenting.
In other words, there’s a large chance you copied the attachment style of your…
Making the bed each morning (+3), eating enough fruits and vegetables (+15), doing yoga three times per week (+8), remembering to call my grandma (+16), and usually sticking to my schedule for posting articles on Medium (+5).
But — always forgetting to drink enough water (-7), not getting enough sleep (-20), occasionally smoking the odd social cigarette (-25), avoiding confrontation at all costs (-11), and a slowly but surely increasing dependency on caffeinated beverages (-6).
We are in the negative, Houston, I repeat, we are in the negative.
Okay but in all seriousness, what if we were the collective sum…
One of closest friends grew up in Israel, and as a result, I’m around my fair share of Hebrew-speaking individuals. Now, I don’t know the first thing about speaking Hebrew, and I’m certainly not the person to ask for any language learning advice. My friends are always kind enough to translate, and being the odd one out has never been a problem… that is, of course, until there is no way to accurately translate and they’re completely and collectively stumped trying to describe to me the precise connotation of such a powerful and useful Israeli expression.
Because while most languages…
If someone were to quickly do a google search for the definition of Sociology it’s most likely they would come across a great variety of subject matter. The study of… “ the development, structure, and functioning of human society,” or, “human social relationships and institutions,” or even, “the organization of societal values and behavior,” just to name a few.
Even to someone well versed in the general terms of social science, there is a lot of new and unfamiliar ground to be covered. …
Although all prebiotics are fiber, not all fiber is prebiotic!
This means that on top of making sure that you’re getting enough fiber in general, it can also be highly important to ensure that you’re also getting the right types of fiber, too.
In fact, a plethora of scientific and nutritional research suggests that an adequate consumption of prebiotic fiber can make all the difference between supporting the healthy functioning of your immune system, or impeding it.
However, in order for a fiber to be considered prebiotic, it has to fulfil three core requirements (1):
Now I’ve been a staunch vegan and animal rights activist for going on half a decade, and many of the topics I research and write naturally fall under this category of topic.
That is to say that when I heard Netflix was a releasing a 90-minute documentary-exposé on the dark underbelly of the fishing and seafood industry, I largely expected to walk away angry and disheartened, but not necessarily shocked or surprised.
I couldn't have been more wrong.
Not only is there something particularly harrowing about witnessing these horrific examples of industry-wide malpractice from the first person POV of director…
